That Diversionary Project

So here's a peek at that little diversionary project that I mentioned in my last post.  I'm not at all sure where I'm headed with this, but so far, it's been fun!

Regarding my painting on the panel, I went through the steps of the decision-making process I mentioned and in the end, decided that simple drafted lines were all that was needed for this graphic piece.  And as for the addition of the waterbased varnish??  It cut the waxy, reflective quality created by the Prismacolor pencils perfectly while leaving a soft look to the surface of the painting.   DONE!

Cheers!

Gloria,
It has occurred to me that for some reason I am not getting your posts regularly via Blogger. I do not know why but I love your diversionary project and wish I knew more about it! It has the look of a 1950's type design to me and the colourway is very subtle yet wonderfully graphic. I wonder where this is heading? Looking forward to seeing more.

wonderful projects Gloria! The shapes are mesmerizing to me...did you make the paper before you cut out the pieces?

and the subtle pencil on top of your painting works!!

Hi Leslie,

Nice to hear from you! I'm thinking I'll use these in a mixed media piece on one or more panels. Maybe a diptych? And yes, mid-century modern design was the inspiration. Cheers!

Hi Kristen,

I painted the recycled papers with light washes of acrylic paints before cutting out the shapes. Glad you approve the addition of the pencil lines to the "Racetracks" painting! BTW, I continue to delight in Little Hen's Studio's products and growth. Very exciting!

I am really excited to see where you 'diversionary' project will be headed. Like Kristen, I love the cutout shapes and the way you have colored them.
Happy First Day of Spring!xx

Gosh, I seem to have fallen behind in my responses! Apologies! Thank you Annamaria, Carole and Betsy for commenting. I put this project on hold for a few weeks, skipped painting on the 24" panel and have been painting, instead, on a 30" canvas, the results of which I will share here soon. I'm not sure when I'll get back to these shapes. . .
All the best!
