Small Paintings and Decorative Scrolled Paper

Robyn Gordon has posted lovely images of paper scrolls on Art Propelled right now.  I always love visiting there because she always does her homework and brings her viewers a multitude of images of whatever it is that she's interested in at the moment.  I have "discovered" so many wonderful artists there, thanks to her "sluething".  If you haven't visited Robyn's blog before, jump on over there and be sure to link to her website where you'll find her own, gorgeously carved totems and other objects. It being a glorious day in Portlandia, I was inspired to grab a stash of my own personal "scrolls," made from one of my mixed media-treated papers, and dash up to my garden shed where I knew the low afternoon light would be conducive to photographs.  I also managed to capture a couple of of decent photos of small paintings on mat board while I was up there.

Shifting Hues

After my last, nearly monochromatic post of  beigy-grey (or greyish-beige?) images.....voila! -- two colorful works on paper! The first, on tissue paper, was done via a combination of relief printing and acrylic paint.  It's shown cropped with a digitally altered  palette here.  You can see the original work here.  The second piece was painted (and stamped) on an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper.  Neither of these are new pieces.  Perhaps this weekend will yield something new.... if not in the way of art, then at least in the way of a house returned to normal after the holidays.

Mary Zeran, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa,  recently recieved the Versatile Blogger Award, and with good reason!  She has eagerly jumped into the blogosphere full speed ahead, with frequent posts on any number of subjects.  With an MFA under her belt, Mary is currently pursuing a painting technique that results in lush-but-spare, free-but -controlled acrylic pieces that include peels of the acrylic paint.

I love Mary's use of fresh, saturated color and the varying quality of edge and line that she achieves.  She has generously provided an explanation of her process on her delightful blog Mary Zeran Designs; and her originals, prints and cards can be found at her Etsy shop .

Well, as you may have guessed by now, Mary, in turn, nominated me for the Versatile Blogger Award for which I am both honored and most appreciative!  Of course, as I expressed once before, blogger awards present a bit of a dilemma for me, but I've decided to join in the fun by "accepting" the award, which requires that I do two things: 1) nominate several other bloggers; and 2) tell seven things about myself.  I'll attend to the first, and obviously most important requirement now, and will follow in a day or two with some "stuff" about me.

I've had absolutely zero time for creating anything (or blogging for that matter) in the past couple of weeks, so I've "dredged" up some earlier works on paper.   In so doing, I remembered that the above painting was the inspiration for one of my first monoprints that later found its way, in one form or another, into a couple other pieces.  One of them, also completed a few years back, incorporated cut-out portions of a Xerox copy of the original.  The other,  #5 in my "Remnants" show, incorporated parts of the actual original print.  I still have a usuable strip from that print that's lying on my drafting table, beckoning me daily!

Woke up to grey skies and cool air on this lovely weekend morning.  Heading out to the garden now for a savory few moments with a cup of coffee.  (Have you noticed -- even for those of us who don't Twitter, language is becoming evermore truncated and "Twitteresque."
